![]() On behalf of the entire team at The Caledonian, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, I would like to express our apologies for the inconvenience caused due to the hot water problem, and I believe that my colleague Daniel did arrange an alternative bedroom. I was very disappointed and concerned to learn that we did not perform to our usual standards, and I have taken measures to ensure that we rectify these issues as a matter of urgency. I would like to personally apologise for the incidents that took place during your stay and I regret the negative impact that these had on your experience. Unfortunately, on this occasion it is apparent that we have fallen somewhat short of your expectation levels. ![]() I will definitely not be staying at the Waldorf again! Maybe they should take a page out of the Four Seasons or The Oberoi to know what 5* service is.ĭear guest, Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent stay with us. All this can be forgiven if service is impeccable but that too was awful. This place is over priced, despite having spent millions on renovation it still looks shabby. I got a tiny bowl of cheap porridge and again ended up throwing it away. The next morning I was unable to step out for breakfast and ordered a bowl of porridge. The hotel manager on duty kindly offered to give dinner from the brasserie on the house. They too were shocked and said they would look into the matter and speak to the kitchen. I couldn't believe it so I took a photo and went down to reception to show the staff. I would expect a sandwich from a petrol station to be of higher quality. What I received was a cold white roll with 3 tiny cut pieces of a yellow, red and green pepper. I was shocked to see the quality of the food. I ordered a roasted vegetable on warm grilled flat bread (sandwich). Anyway, since that restaurant was actually closed (concierge had told us it was open) we decided to order room service. The concierge was so rude and abrupt that we felt the need to actually go downstairs to reception to make a formal complaint. We were unable to get through so we asked concierge if they could call on our behalf. Secondly, we wanted to order takeaway from a local restaurant. had to run the tap for 5 minutes to get hot water. We encountered the same issue but it wasn't as bad I.e. That night, when we wanted to use the shower we had to run it for 10 minutes and even then the water was not hot. I understand the plumber came and said everything was fine. The next day we informed concierge who said they would ask a plumber to have a look. I had to run the tap for 20 minutes before the water got hot. The night we arrived, I wanted to have a bath. My husband and I stayed at the Waldorf for 3 nights and it was a nightmare. I’m sure the hotel ticks all the boxes to qualify for 5 stars but there are other 5 star hotels in Edinburgh that are better so I think that next time we go to the Pompadour restaurant (and I do hope there will be a next time) we'll be very tempted to stay elsewhere and take a taxi. The turn down service was poor for though the slippers were placed next to the bed the curtains remained undrawn and though the fluffy towels were all neatly folded on the heated towel rail the bed (where we’d had a wee sleep in the afternoon) was literally turned down but not remade and the piece de resistance was the sink which remained partially blocked (it took 3 minutes to empty) throughout our stay. We had a deluxe queen room with view overlooking the castle on the 3rd floor (room 424) and while the view over the castle to the Scott monument and the Forth beyond was fabulous the room itself, which was fairly small, fairly dark, surprisingly noisy (it took me a while to work out that our room was adjacent to an internal staff lift) was disappointing. The hotel, unfortunately, just didn’t come up to the same standard. The restaurant was excellent in every way, the cooking (we chose the gourmand menu), the service, the cadre …. My wife and I recently went to the Caledonian hotel in Edinburgh (a Waldorf Astoria hotel) to stay the night and have dinner at the Pompadour restaurant.
